See-Through Storm Protection

“Polycarbonate Hurricane Panels”

For most of us living in the United States, June marks the start of summer.  But for our friends in the southeast, it’s also the beginning of hurricane season. From June through November, the Atlantic Ocean’s waters become warm enough to form tropical cyclones. These storms often move towards land, leaving a trail of destruction in their path.

Hurricanes are unpredictable in the way they move, change in size, and shift in intensity. For these reasons, if there’s a possibility of one striking land, it’s best to be prepared for the worst. Your home is most exposed at its doorways, windows, and roof.  These are the primary entry points for strong winds and straight-line rain. Adding an extra layer of protection over your windows and doors is crucial in lessening potential damage.

Most hurricane protection systems are made from metal or wood; both materials tend to be heavy and block sunlightThis is where the Hurrigal Hurricane Storm Panel truly stands apart. This lightweight multiwall polycarbonate panel is easy to install, is extremely durable, and allows daylight to come into your home.

José, from Tampa, Florida put the Hurrigal panel to the test during the last couple of hurricanes of the 2024 season.  Previously, José covered his windows with metal shutters for storm protection. The metal shutters were heavy, hard to handle, and José needed assistance to install them properly.  The metal shutters also blocked daylight from entering his home. If power was lost, José and his family had to rely on flashlights and candles for light.

When asked what he liked about using the Hurrigal panels instead of the metal shutters, Jose had this to say: “The polycarbonate storm panels were very light, strong, and easy to handle, making the installation simple and convenient. I installed them myself and it didn’t take much time. In addition, the panels were easy to un-install, remove, and store because they are thin, come in a 4’x8’ size, and don’t take up a lot of space.”

Hurrigal Hurricane Storm Panels have gone through a rigorous testing process to ensure they can withstand the high winds and impacts from large debris flying around during a hurricane.  José has this to say about the panels’ overall performance: “They stayed firm in place the whole time, even when the weather conditions became the worst during the hurricane. They withstood the high wind speeds we experienced over 65mph. The panels provided an additional level of security and safety for our home.”

When asked if he had any tips that weren’t included in the installation guide, José said that it was difficult working with the hardware kit provided. He ended up going to his local hardware store for the necessary concrete screws. José also found that he didn’t need to fasten down the panels as often as the guide recommends. (Note: Not following the installation guidelines will void the panel warranty.)

Based on his experience, José would 100% recommend the Hurrigal Hurricane Storm Panel. The polycarbonate panel proved to be highly effective and was more aesthetically appealing compared to other storm protection options.
